MEDICAL DIRECTOR

JOB SUMMARY

The medical director within our community behavioral health services organization is responsible for providing medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment to individuals with mental health needs. This role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care for clients, addressing both their physical and mental well-being. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct thorough medical assessment and examinations of clients with mental health concerns to diagnose and identify underlying medical conditions. 

  • Develop and implement treatment plans that integrate medical and psychiatric care, taking into consideration clients' mental health conditions and medication needs. 

  • Prescribe appropriate psychiatric medications and monitor their effectiveness, adjusting dosages and treatment plans as necessary. 

  • Collaborate closely with psychiatric, therapist, psychologists, and other mental health professionals to ensure coordinated care and holistic treatment approaches. 

  • Participate in case conferences and treatment planning meetings to discuss client progress, medications management, and overall care strategies. 

  • Provide medical education to clients and their families about the effects, benefits and potential side effects of prescribed medication. 

  • Offer crisis intervention and immediate medical support in emergency situations, working to stabilized clients during mental health crises. 

  • Document all client interactions, medical assessments, treatment protocols and health research to provide the highest quality care. 

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices in both medicine and mental health care. 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Medical doctor degree (m.d.) from accredited medical school. 

  • Board certification in psychiatric or relevant medical speciality. 

  • State medical license in good standing.

  • Experience in providing medical care to individuals with mental health or behavioral health needs. 

  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric medications, treatment modalities, and best practices in integrated mental health care. 

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, clients and their families. 

  • Emphaty, compassion and a strong commitment to the well-being of individuals with mental health challenges. 

  • Ability to make informed and timely clinical decisions, especially in crisis situations.

  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems for accurate documentation and record-keeping. 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

The medical doctor will work within a community behavioral health services facility, collaborating closely with mental health professionals in a team-oriented environment.
